Kudos to Ntreev!

Today I am glad I can announce some happier news for all of you. The entire Ntreev team has been researching the biggest bugs I posted about earlier and decided to have a big fix maintenance. Here is the news bulletin they posted to prepare the players for it.

We will be performing server maintenance on Saturday evening 04/18/09.

The maintenance hours as scheduled:

From:
04/18/09 9:00 PM (PDT)

To:
04/19/09 4:00 AM (PDT)
*Completed at 04/19/09 03:20 AM

There will not be a maintenance on Friday night (4/17/09)

During the maintenance, the game will not be available for play.

The ending maintenance hour is subject to change. We will post an update if it changes.

-- Pangya Team

The maintenance went very smooth and without any delays or trouble. Besides that it also solved the problems of about 90% of the community. I have found a few players who are still experiencing the 'blank server bug' but I'm quite sure that it must be a problem on their end then. I would advise everyone to check the doublecheck the requirements needed to play Pangya and to check if your security system is not blocking out any of the Pangya applications. The bug that took out players' usernames was also taken care of and I was able to create my character without much trouble this time. I am very statisfied with the support Ntreev has provided. If they keep this up I am sure they can soon count on a large player base. Many players are eagerly awaiting the cash items and I'll be sure to post an update when they become avaible.

Bug spray anyone?

A day after the official release of Pangya USA by Ntreev the players are still experiencing some serious problems. Even for an Open Beta the bugs are appearing faster than fixes are being found. I have been working on a fix of my own but since the problems are server sided there is only so much I can do.

The most common problems at the moment are:

  • An empty server list when logging in.
  • Bugged accounts that reserved a character name but did not get the character name bound to them.
  • Being unable to load the game at all.
  • Gameguard security problems.

Most people are experiencing trouble with the empty server list. I'm not sure what might have caused this but when you log in you might find yourself not being able to see the Tiki or Dolphini server. There is not yet a solid fix for this but checking your firewall and relogging a few times are the only fixes that have been working for some users so far.

Hanging together with the blank server lists are the 'Name taken' errors. When people created a character and then received the blank server list their character went missing. The next time they logged in the server prompted them to input a username again. When people wanted to input their username again it now said that name was taken. To explain it simply: They did create their character the first time but the bug prevented the server from binding that character to their account. The character with their prized name is now floating around cyberspace without any owner. I am experiencing this problem myself and am hoping for a quick solution to this problem because my character name was quite precious to me.

Other people are totally unable to launch the client which might be a good thing because it prevents them from being bugged as well but of course they would rather be able to play so they keep insisting on a fix. Together with that problem there is the Gameguard problem that refuses to let them through, either these people are trying to cheat or they have something in their system that is being mistaken for a hack. To be honest it's a security firewall problem most of the time.

I decided to post some fixes that might help some people out there so please try this if you are out of luck.

These are the only official fixes so far and other usermade fixes are confirmed to not work. The Ntreev team is currently working on the blank server list bug and hopefully if that one is solved they will be able to release our taken nicknames. I haven't seen one official response on that case yet so I'm a little desperate. I'm starting to think they'll just force us to use other nicknames. Let us hope that this is not the case since it would really put a dent in my trust towards Ntreev.

For now do your best to be patient and endure the bugs, there will be fixes found sooner or later~!

Nickname taken...by me T__T

I'm very dissapointed T__T as you could read in my previous post I stayed up until 7.30AM to be able to reserve my nickname. But apparently I got screwed over either way by Ntreev's evil server of doom. I don't blame the Ntreev team but it would have been nice if they could have foreseen this. Here is the post I made on the official forums:

I stayed up a whole night to be able to reserve my username but apparently it was all for nothing T_T Yesterday around 7.40AM GMT+1 I logged in on this account and it prompted me for my username. I typed in my username and confirmed it and it said it was avaible. I was able to make my Hana character perfectly fine and all went well.

Today I log in with my account and it prompts me for my username again. No harm done I guessed and entered my username again. However now it says the username is taken. I believe that this is a bug since I'm afraid the system thinks this name is already taken because I was able to make a character with that name however it shouldn't be prompting me again then.

I hope this can be fixed soon because it's quite dissapointing T__T;

Thank you in advance.

I really feel crushed x_x It would really temper my mood to play if I wasn't able to play under my official name. I know most people wouldn't find this a problem and could easily find a new name to use but this username means a lot to me. I'm starting to fear that this won't be fixed any time soon. I can't say that PangyaUS has brought me any good luck at the moment. Let's hope that this isn't the first of many negative experiences with the server.

Welcome to Pangya!

Our long wait has been rewarded at last, at around 7.30AM GMT+1 the server opened for the grand public and you can't believe how packed the servers were. x__x The migrations have delayed the opening a lot. The normal opening was planned for 4.00AM GMT+1 but soon the Ntreev team found out that the account migration was going to take longer than expected. To prevent more 'I can't log in' threads they posted a new announcement telling the community that the server would be ready around 6.00AM GMT+1. Mind you I stayed up to reserve my username a whole night so I was already in a bad mood with all the delays. Finally at 6.00AM GMT+1 I felt slightly relieved that I could embrace my pillow and give in soon. However when I tried logging in nothing happened again. I quickly checked the news and behold, another delay to come! The opening was delayed for another hour and a half which made the official opening time 7.30AM GMT+1. In total we had a three hour and a half delay which is not too bad, all things considered.

I had to re-login once because at first the servers were not showing but after that everything went quite smoothly. I was able to reserve my official username 'Roselynn'. Since Fate has decided I will be playing under the name of Roselynn. Nice choice from fate seeing I have been using that name in Pangya Europe as well. Unlike most Albatross 18 players I will have to start from scratch. Scratch being 3000 Pang apparently. My first goal will be to save up for Kooh. She's my little lucky charm and I absolutely love her animations.

I will be showing you some first impressions of the US version as soon as I spent my first hours playing.

Abbreviations

Abbreviations. What are they good for?

...

Absolutely nothing!

That's right. I was browsing the Ntreev forum once more in my free time and I couldn't look past threads like 'pangya acronyms', 'KK VS M' and 'Have the courses been mowed?'. I'm sorry, that last one was just too stupid to ignore -_-; I don't understand what problem people have with words. Beautiful long words with actual meaning.

Just why do people need abbreviations in Pangya? You don't have to pay any money for each letter you type so why don't you take advantage of it and type as much as you can! It's not like you don't have any time either because while you wait for your opponent to make his move you often have plenty of time. In tournaments I don't see the need to talk unless you are trying to smalltalk with 29 other people at the same time.

Here are some examples:

  • psq: Player Square. What is a Player Square? Apparently people use this for the chatrooms where you can lounge or open up your shop. The word chatroom is too hard to use or so it seems. Let's say we do call it a player square, shouldn't the abbreviation be 'ps' then and not 'psq'. Obviously not because people would confuse it with 'playstation'. I'll stick with the word chatroom.

  • ppic: A missed Pangya. People use the sound a missed pangya makes as a word. I think that says enough. There is no such thing as a missed pangya because a missed pangya is a normal shot.

  • gg - ns - np - nt - ty: In order these mean 'good game - nice shot - nice putt - nice try - thank you'. These bother me to such an extent that I am in horror whenever someone uses them in-game. 'gg' reminds me of the command /gg in ragnarok which showed you a grinning face of doom so when someone says 'gg' I assume they're just laughing at my skills (or lack thereof X3 more likely). 'ns' does not seem too bad but I don't see why you can't just type out 'Nice shot'. 'np' as 'nice putt' is not right at all since 'np' is already a widely used abbreviation for 'no problem'. 'nt' is just weird because 'nice try' sound awfully demeaning and when someone says it I usually just think it means 'no thanks'. 'ty' is a general one. I accept it better than 'thx - thnx' but I still prefer people to simply say 'Thank you'.

I'll simply stop naming abbreviations here because they're already annoying me. I assure you I could go on for an hour explaining more than 50 Pangya abbreviations that are utterly useless in-game. Why is it so hard to type full words. I don't care if you think using some sort of screwed up code language is cool, all it does is make you look like a total analphabet. These abbreviations are on par with 1337-speak and combined with it people with an average IQ will lose all respect for you.

I hope I will be able to find some players who are as reluctant to use these terms as I am or it will be a lonely road for me. I am who I am and I'm not about to drop my IQ to make friends o_o;

Account recovery started

As the opening of the server draws more near every minute people are starting to get hyper and panicky whenever something doesn't really go the way they wanted it to. To be honest I find it utmost amusing, yet also frustrating. You wouldn't believe how many times I felt like smacking myself in the head due to stupidities of other people. More about that later~

There seem to have been some problems with the account recovery system hence they had to delay them for a little while.

We are running into some last mininute delay for Account Recovery opening. We will be opening the Account Recovery at 9:30PM PDT.

- Pangya Team

Not a big deal of course since it's always better to delay things than to open them too early and have a whole legion of players complain their heads off. Not soon after the account recovery opened. Do note the 'we recommend reading all the instructions very carefully when proceeding with the recovery process.'! And they even added a fun note for new players by releasing the Open Beta Client early.

We are happy to announce that the Pangya account recovery form is now live for players who had Albatross18 accounts previously.

Simply click on the 'RECOVER ACCOUNT' button located in the middle of our official Pangya website to begin the process. As a friendly reminder, we recommend reading all the instructions very carefully when proceeding with the recovery process.

Please note, this process will only request the transfer of your account data. The actual migration process will begin on our first scheduled maintenance. You can review the release schedule including the Open Beta time here. There is no need to go through the recovery process if you never had an Albatross18 account.

To avoid download congestion, we've released the Pangya Open Beta client in advance. If you want to get a head start, please feel free to download the game now so you can install it early. You'll be able to log in once our servers are open for Pangya Open Beta. Simply click the download button to start downloading the Pangya Open Beta client.

We all appreciate your enthusiasm and support. The grass is cut and watered. Greens are opening up very soon!

- Pangya Team

I already have my Open Beta Client roaring and ready to go. What you actually downloaded from the site itself was not a client but a download manager. You then simply had to let the download manager download the client installation file for you, which took about 5 minutes for me. But apparently for some people this already poses a great challenge.

downloadstartbutton

Can you believe you actually had to press a start button for it to work? x_x Who would have ever thought of that. Like I said before I'm really having a field trip with all this chaos~!

So in general most people with an average IQ managed to get their Open Beta Client up and running. However it took a lot of time to make clear to about 90% of the players that the server was not open yet and that you could not patch or play yet. All by all it was not too bad, I expected more idiocy than this but of course more came. In the form of account recovery problems people started to spill the beans and confess that they actually lied about their birthdate on their OPG account. Big surprise there. Some of them didn't even remember if they lied or not o_o; they must be gifted.

fakedob

I think there is a saying for this in my language: 'No matter how fast the lie runs, the truth will catch up to it eventually.' Of course since the deceiving people in life have the most chances of making it out there, there was a solution to this person's problems. They could log into their old OPG account and answer their secret question to gain access to their information, which included the birthdate they had filled in. But of course...

forgotsecretquestion

Mind you, by this time I was literally laughing like crazy. I really never knew human stupidity could reach this far. I wonder if this person will ever get his account transfered. In my opinion, they don't deserve it if they can't even remember their DOB or secret question.

I hope the poor employees of Ntreev find a way to get it through to these people how to do everything correct. I fear the worst, many extra working hours will be made and many cups of coffee will be wasted.

---- Questions and Answers ----

Q: How can I contact you?
A: You can contact me at sanarmaya@gmail.com. I always try to reply as soon as possible. If I haven't contacted you within a week it might be that your e-mail was lost. Please try contacting me once more in that case.

Q: Who are you?
A: I am your worst nightmare~! No, really! Why don't you believe me?

Q: Who are you really?
A: Fine, I'll tell you a bit about myself. I'm a female Pangya player that has played on the European server for a little while under the name of Roselynn. Currently however you can find me on the American server under the name of Dawn. If you feel like you could use some friends, feel free to add me~! I will be more than happy to help you wherever I can. In real life you can usually find me admiring nature and daydreaming. This daydreaming oftens results in ignoring reality which can be quite an irritating thing for the people around me. If you want to know anything else feel free to send me a question~!

Q: Have you always played Pangya?
A: No, I'm afraid not. The first online game I ever played was Ragnarok, it is still one of my all-time favorites. My first Ntreev Game was Trickster Online where I have a beautiful Bard named Roselynn as well. She is my pride and joy~!

Q: What are your favorite female characters in Pangya?
A: One of the classic questions, I'll simply give you a list.
  1. Kooh
  2. Alice
  3. Arin
  4. Hana
  5. Cecilia

Q: What are you favorite male characters in Pangya?
A: Once more a pretty list.
  1. Kaz
  2. Scout
  3. Max
  4. Uncle Bob
